Erin Swiggum, a compassionate Family Nurse Practitioner, is deeply ingrained in the local community’s fabric. Born at Vernon Memorial Hospital in 1980, Erin’s upbringing on a small rural dairy farm in Soldiers Grove and her education at North Crawford Schools reflect her strong ties to this area. Family businesses, including her father’s tractor repair shop and her mother’s postal service roles, contributed to her formative years.
Presently residing in Viola with her three children, Erin’s sons, Warren (15) and Weston (14), are avid basketball enthusiasts, engaging in strength training, mountain biking, and video gaming. Her 5-year-old daughter, Ingri, finds joy in gymnastics, swimming, and children’s shows. Together, they are active members of the Kickapoo Area Schools community.
Erin has devoted 18 years to Vernon Memorial Hospital, gaining experience across various healthcare settings. In December 2022, Erin underwent a substantial career transition by wholeheartedly embracing primary care at the LaFarge Medical Clinic. This pivotal step marked her progression into family practice, following a notable 12-year duration as a nurse practitioner throughout the hospital.
Inspired by the impactful approach of VMH providers, Erin’s decision to become a nurse practitioner was fueled by a desire to contribute meaningfully to the field. While her career primarily encompassed acute care settings, her focus within primary care has gravitated towards addiction, mental health, and internal medicine.
As a healthcare provider, Erin’s philosophy centers on meeting patients at their current stage of health. Guiding individuals toward positive lifestyle changes that lead to their happiest and healthiest lives is at the heart of her approach. Erin derives great fulfillment from providing care to her neighbors, especially those facing challenges or struggling with addictions. She firmly believes that every step taken towards sobriety adds significant value to one’s life.
Outside of her professional commitments, Erin passionately upholds a healthy diet and active lifestyle. Regular visits to the CrossFit gym and trail running in the reserve offer her personal solace.
