VMH LAB - MORE INFORMATION |
Welcome to the medical
laboratory at Vernon Memorial Hospital!
Its the an area where medical
laboratory professionals find the
answers to these questions and more.
In our laboratory a highly
skilled team of phlebotomists, technicians, and technologists work
together to determine the presence, extent or absence of disease
and provide the valuable data needed to evaluate the effectiveness
of treatment. In fact the practice of modern medicine would not be
possible without the tests performed in the laboratory.
We may spend less time with the patient and have a less visible role
than nurses or doctors, but we are just as dedicated to the health
of our patients. As vital members of the health care team the laboratory
professionals at Vernon Memorial Hospital have a critical role in
providing the information needed to give the best care to an ill
or injured patient.
Laboratory Staffing:
Our laboratory
is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week so there
is someone from the laboratory in the hospital at all times. We perform
testing for all of the affiliated medical clinics as well as the
independent providers and veterinary offices.
Tests Performed:
The laboratory is separated into sub departments according to the type of testing
performed in that section - they are Chemistry, Therapeutic Drugs, Hematology,
Coagulation, Blood Bank, Urinalysis, Immunology, Microbiology and EKG. We have
a test menu of over 180 procedures that are performed in our laboratory. We also
have agreements with larger reference laboratories for patients with special
testing requirements.
LAB TESTS AVAILABLE
Blood Bank Affiliation:
We are currently associated with The Blood Center of
Southeastern Wisconsin that supplies the majority of our
blood product needs. We also offer a special program where qualified
patients donate their own blood ahead of time for planned surgical
procedures. This is called autologous donation.
How can you contact us?
We are located in Vernon Memorial Hospital. Our phone numbers are
608-637-4280 and 608-637-4281, the fax number is 608-637-4286. You

How are Lab tests ordered?
The laboratory personnel need an order from your Health Care Practitioner
to have the appropriate specimens collected and tests performed.
If you come to see us personally we will ask you to register prior
to having the tests done to assure that appropriate information release
and billing procedures are followed. The results of your tests will
be then sent to the persons or organizations that you have indicated
when you registered.
Can I get copies of my Lab Results?
Yes, copies may be obtained from the Health Information Management
department at Vernon Memorial Hospital, provided that you had the
test specimens collected at Vernon Memorial Hospital. Otherwise you
should contact your Health Care Practitioner for copies of the results.
